Building Contexts - II. Maps and projects for Seoul. Korean edition

ByMaurizio CaronesLuca Scalingi

The book presents the South Korean edition of a planning and urban research focussing on Seoul. For the last few years, authors Maurizio Carones, Hang-Joon Gio and Luca Scalingi have led a research group investigating the contemporary city at Politecnico of Milan, where Maurizio Carones teaches Architectural Planning as Adjunct Professor. The book features an essay by Seiyong Kim, Professor at the Korea University of Seoul. The research, partly already published in 2018 in Italian, was presented at the UIA congress in Seoul in 2017 and at the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (SBAU) in 2019. The book indicates Seoul as one of the most representative cities as far as contemporary urban issues are concerned, and it proposes effective descriptive planning and teaching tools. In line with the tradition of urban studies, the work addresses the relationship between place and project, outlining how the project is an opportunity to describe places and define their role as "context".
