This book is offbeat, but an exciting and fun read, giving rare new experiences of a woman traveller, stranded in the Hong Kong Airport for many months. She believes in miracles, and writes of a colourful life filled with extreme Ups and Downs, and amazing psychic experiences, such as her father's rescue from the worst airplane crash in Canadian history, and sudden money appearing out of nowhere, blowing in the wind, on a Christmas Eve: she and her artist boyfriend were broke. She believes miracles belong to Christians and other faiths, and begins with her childhood. However, the most poetic and beautiful is her visit to a New Age health practitioner who cured her car accident injuries of 7 years, in a home where dozens of birds flew freely in the home. At the moment of the healing manipulation, a bird flew to Arielle's heart, and just sat on it peacefully. Knowing as an artist that poverty is a bleak subject, she juxtaposes and arranges her material in shorty punchy articles: poverty... More > among the airport dwellers, psychic and mystical experiences, stories about the differences in women's treatment in China and the West, such as tutoring for an embittered second wife, who fired her tutors and servants routinely. She also hints at crimes among the poor that fail to make the mainstream news, such as a neighbour who ran a fake modelling agency, where a few young women mysteriously disappeared! As true life autobiographies go, this is one of the best I have ever read!< Less
