This textbook is the first volume of a two-volume set designed to enable high school students to succeed with single- and multi-variable calculus. The first volume is appropriate for those students in an AP Calculus AB course. Some AP Calculus BC topics are included in this volume, as well as some topics not present in the AP course descriptions. The main audience for this book is the gifted high school student. Numerical and graphical approaches are used to motivate theory, and the theory is further illustrated in applied problems. Volume two includes the remaining topics in the Calculus BC course, along with partial derivatives, multiple integrals, and introductory linear algebra. This is the third edition, which features a reorganization of material, changes in the problem sets, and corrects typographical errors.
