A masterpiece. A hallucinatory fever-dream of a swords & sorcery vision of Southeast Asia. One of the best things to come out of the Dungeons & Dragons "Old School Renaissance". Worthwhile even to non-gamers as a Borgesian guidebook to a well-realized fantasy milieu.

My GM used this book to run our Dungeon World adventure, and it's definitely one of the best settings I've had the pleasure to play in.

The opening section is the chronicle of a traveller, giving their impressions of the places that they visit. It's a great way to give in-character impressions of the people and places detailed here, something that reminds me of the D&D Gazetteer series. The book is really for generating your own version of Yoon Suin, and the campaign you run there, with lots of random tables for this. The substance of these is excellent, but they also drip with flavour. If you've heard the hype for Veins of the Earth lately, give this a shot.
