    Esther K. Chae’s play, So the Arrow Flies, is a vibrant and imaginative one-person play; one can use the text as a full-length play performed by a single or multiple performers. A section of the play can be an ideal audition piece. The play is packed with international espionage and colorful monologues based on the author’s research into the history of South and North Koreas, as well as her own journey of self-discovery. It is this exploration of her identity, space, and role in society as a Korean-American woman in the twenty-first century that lies in the heart of the play. Dramaturgically crafted, this play involves seamless transformations of the characters from the alleged North Korean spy (Kim Jong-il’s once favored actress), to her pre-teen hapa daughter, a Korean-American FBI agent, and her elderly mother.
