White Sox Outsider is the fourth edition of the annual Chicago White Sox reference book, written by Jim Margalus of SouthSideSox.com. This time, White Sox Outsider looks back on a tumultuous season that began with high hopes and maximum hype that the White Sox never met. Instead, the season ended with a below-.500 record and a trade of their iconic manager. White Sox Outsider 2012 includes: *Detailed month-by-month and move-by-move recaps of the 2011 season. *A look back at the circumstances that led to Ozzie Guillen's exit, and a preview of what's to come with the Robin Ventura Era. *Eulogies and parting words for those departing the South Side, from Mark Buehrle to Josh Kinney. *Summaries of the 2011 draft and the year down on the farm. *Individual profiles with reviews and 2012 previews for every player on the 40-man roster.

May 21, 2012White Sox Outsider 2012 is an absolute must read for any and all White Sox fans. I have read each year's volume starting with 2009, and they just keep getting better. Baseball in general and the White Sox in particular are an obvious passion of Jim's. He combines this passion with a keen rational understanding of the game and a professional writer's flair for a well-crafted sentence, yielding a book that is both tremendously insightful and entertaining. White Sox Outsider 2012 follows the same general format as in previous years, a format that provides both a thoughtful look back at the past season as well as an in-depth analysis of the current state of the team and where it is headed. In this year's volume I especially enjoyed the Mark Buehrle retrospective and the Ozzie-to-Robin chapter. I still crack up every time I look at Carl Skanberg's cartoon of Kenny Williams handing the keys of Ozzie's old "vehicle" over to Robin Ventura. And I... More > expect that Jim's predictions of the future for the team and each player will be as accurate as they have proven to be in the past - it is startling how accurate he has been. He even, in last year's volume, pointed out why it was not a given that Adam Dunn would perform to expectations and to his career averages during his first season on the south side. So if you are a White Sox fan you simply must buy this book. You should also read the South Side Sox blog where Jim is editor and primary contributor. It is my hope that, even though attendance for the White Sox may be down after the disappointment of last season, the audience for Jim's excellent White Sox Outsider series of books will continue to grow.< Less
