"Six Lies Women Believe About Their Health", a treasure for people who are taking their health in hand, is Lesa Lawson’s invitation to a delightful little exploration as she deconstructs conventional views about women’s health and challenges them to the better way. Lawson raises age-old issues right from the start of each chapter in verse capsules that are hard pills to swallow in the face of her commonsense approach. She confronts them and calls them what they are in conversational yet commanding tones. Each viewpoint is adequately refuted and solution proffered. Her placement of personal anecdotal support is sensible, confirming her past vulnerability yet how much of a champion she is on the stomping ground firstly, of the mind – the place to which she invites readers to know, observe, research, listen and record. “Nobody knows your body like you do,” she argues. The mental processes are followed by action – “Good health …needs to become a habit.” Lawson puts the... More > responsibility for your health squarely in your court. Even while it is in your court, she offers personalized care for she knows only too well the numerous and in-your-face ‘fixes’ that there are. Lawson gives place to medications but only just. She does not resort to suppression of evidence to make her assertions credible. The work is not an exclusive broadside against traditional medicine. Her allowance of “… regulatory emergency measures…” is not a flaw but an acknowledgement that natural medicine, while always better, is process-driven and long-term. "Six Lies Women Believe About Their Health" does beckon the reader to serious reflection. It is a work with which the countless number of people who have become health conscious would do well to engage. The work is simply inspiring!< Less
