A friend gave me the paperback version of the book for my birthday last month. It's quite a hefty work and I wasn't sure if I would get through it. But once I got started I couldn't put it down. Human Manipulation is a book that attempts to document all of the types of human and political manipulation in use in contemporary society. After a lengthy analysis regarding the history of political manipulation, the remainder of the book deals with roughly 300 different manipulative techniques and the cognitive aberrations that make them possible including various forms of cognitive dissonance. The book has a clear writing style and deals with these very complex but important subjects in a very objective, unemotional way. The examples used are generally modern and relevant to a present day reader. The author is careful not to express personal opinions on the morality of the subject matter. It is a very well researched book and it is very complete (hundreds of techniques are defined) and has... More > it has a lot of explanatory notes. The book has proved very useful in understanding this aspect of human behavior. This isn't however a book for the casual reader - this is very much a textbook for the specialist or those interested in serious psychology or politics. Beware it's also a very large book.< Less
