The War of the Light, Dust Jacket: The Starman Saga, Vol. 3
Hardcover, 732 Pages

In the 22nd century, Starlight Enterprise produced its first Starmen, its gifted and highly trained venturers destined for excitement, danger, and battle with ruthless enemies. The Starman saga is recounted in three volumes: The Dawn of the Starmen, The Search for the Benefactors, and The War of the Light. A fourth volume, The Starman Companion, provides essay, reviews, and background material for the saga. In The War of the Light, the Starmen and their allies, surrounded by the overwhelming darkness of the threat of destruction, choose to confront the evil of their time. Their adventures take them into the rings of Saturn where a secret had been concealed 12,000 years earlier, across the galaxy to their enemy’s home planet in a star cluster so bright that night cannot exist, and finally to a dwarf planet that had not known the light of day for millions of years. The dedication and courage of the Starmen and their allies bring the Starman saga to its stunning climax. Visit... More > www.starmanseries.com< Less

Oct 28, 2017If you have gotten to this point in the series, or at least in my reviews of this series, you do not need me to explain much about the background of these stories. Please see my previous reviews of the other books in this series for further information. In this review I will look at each novel length story individually. I am not going to review the short stories, or the short novel (“Paradox Lost”), but did find them in general to be good reads, often filling in background details for the Starman novels. “The Heart of Danger” (Novel length book seven in the series) This fifth novel length story continues the somewhat darker turn that began in the last book, as the Starmen, the rest of humanity, and humanities alien allies, finally face their deadly alien foes head on. Once again, the Starmen (Zip Foster, Joe Taylor, and Mark Seaton), are separated at times, and forced to rely on their resourcefulness and courage against at times overwhelming odds. In this book the Starmen journey to... More > near the center of our galaxy, there to learn more about the true nature of the threat posed to humanity. In the process one of them is thrust into “the heart of danger”, coming close to death multiple times in the midst of an enemy that is poised to deliver a death blow to the races of our solar system. A surprise twist leads to hope and apparent victory, but all may not be as it seems, as the following book reveals. I am purposely being a bit vague above, since at this point in the series saying much more would involve massive spoilers. By the time I got to this book I was so engaged in the characters and in the story, that I could hardly believe this was the same series that I originally felt got off to a bit of a slow start. The careful laying of plot and character details early in the series bears wonderful fruit here and in the following book!
