For anyone who lives in Bucks County, PA, or elsewhere for that matter, this is an intriguing story about a tract of land on which sits a popular state park today along the Delaware River near Philadelphia. Originally owned by Robert R. Logan, a direct descendant of James Logan—an early settler, advocate and secretary of William Penn during Colonial times— this property during the American Jazz Age and Roaring '20s, through the mid-1950s was the home to an experimental commune and art colony, hosting such emissaries as Jiddu Krishnamurti, an Indian guru of the Theosophical movement of the 1930s and '40s, and Annie Besant: a British socialist, theosophist, women's rights activist, writer and orator. Home to an American Impressionist painter who had studied under James Abbott McNeill Whistler of Whistler's Mother fame, Richard Blossom Farley spent his latter years there, living at the infamous estate on which whose inhabitants were rumored to take part in witchcraft, paganism and... More > hedonism. Find out the real story about what went on at Sarobia: Sanctuary for Human Beings, Birds and Animals, before it was turned over to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, willed to the state prior to the landowner's death. This e-book harks back to Robert R. Logan's attempt at producing a Utopian society, illustrated with scans of 35mm slides taken by Logan and his private photographer during Sarobia's florescence.< Less
