This book is a witty, succinct satire exploring of the philosophy of governing. It puts the reader in the position of a newly elected or appointed leader in a state, or "tax farmer", to show the deceptions and contradictions used by the powers that be to maintain compliance of their "cattle", the tax payers. Short and to the point, the aspiring libertarian would do well to spend an afternoon reading this along side Murray Rothbard's Anatomy of the State, another quick read on the immorality of state power. I hope Rothbard's book will find a new audience in this new generation, just as I hope Molyneux's work will reach further readership in a time when answers to our social problems always seem to lead to the increase in the scope and power of the government.
