"Nine Familiar Fables" What an adept, competent, effectual, efficacious way to gambol, spring, frolic and romp through what can be the tedious, dreary, wearying, vexing task of learning new words. My teen-age son rolled his eyes when I told him to read Nine Familiar Fables but then started chuckling. The book force feeds vocab words by piling on synonyms in one sentence after another in childhood fables. It's an exercise in the kind of silliness that teens find infectious, catching, contagious, inoculable...well, you get the idea. I have him read the words aloud. A lot of them he has never heard before. He starts with a groan but soon we're both giggling. Anytime you get a teen to laugh while learning, you have a winner. Bruce Benson, Honolulu

"Nine Familiar Fables by Hugh Conlon" Our daughter is talented and smart, but not a reader. Once she found this funny, power-packed vocabulary builder and started laughing at its quirky cartoons, we noticed a quantum leap in her language and writing skills. Congrats to the author for nailing the need and filling it so perfectly. A must for anyone anxious about their English or SAT English scores….Claudia Stricker, Wittman, MD
