Everyone is an artist. All people can produce meaningful and healing works of art through the Portrait of Self archiving process. This publication is a combination of text and workbook exercises that provide educators with an effective means of accumulating visual resources for implementation of community arts projects.
This proprietary method of journaling and chronicling information and images was developed by artist Hugh Merrill, who has employed the process for over ten years in conjunction with educational institutions, public arts projects, and non-profit organizations.
Portrait of Self provides a means to increase creative thinking by integrating elements of participants’ daily lives. Easily adapted to a variety of media, these exercises help encourage poetic thinking and the exploration of conceptual creativity. These methods help students and contributors learn as they create.
