A well written memoir of one man's career in the police - and his departure from the service, under harsh and badly dealt circumstances. Although fate often fortuously leads us down a path that is meant to be - and directs us from the one we thought we should follow, and in Ian's case the future success was to be his training business. Buy it, read it and enjoy the humour and wit, along with some though provoking views on a Great British Institution, and life in general. Eloquently written (besides a few blue words) and it certainly kept me enthralled from start to finish.

I will add this book to one of the most original book I have ever read. I couldn’t put it down. Ian Kirke (author) takes you through a journey of some powerful politics within the world of his former job. Though it was sometimes distressing to read, it is also a novel filled with intelligence and humour. I found it very well thought out and well written. ‘Blue lights with a hint of green’ is packed with a thought-provoking punches of which some readers will undoubtedly respond to. However, Kirke wrote it in a way that makes it easier for you to make your opinion up about the justice system.

Blue lights with a hint of green is a book that has you engaged from the opening line. You will find yourself identifying with some of the frustrations felt by the author and empathising at his pragmatic view of the Police. Some Hilarious and well written tales of real life policing with the drama and moral dilemmas faced by someone facing resistance to change at all levels. This will open your eyes to the sometimes Victorian aspects of Policing and yet is a touching recount of life defining moments that help shape the author into a successful businessman. Highly recommended.

An interesting account from a former senior officer of life behind closed doors. At times hilarious and also underpinned by stories of jealousy and back biting, this is as close as you will get to the mentality of some of those thst lead the Police Service. A brilliantly written account of his struggle to break free of the norms imposed on those serving in the Police. An excellent read.

Life in the police was always thought to be just that, a job for life. But for one dedicated officer, what he always thought would be his future, his destiny, changed forever. Blue lights with a hint of green is the fascinating story of a career in the police as told through the real life experiences of Ian Kirke. Written with wit and passion this authentic autobiography exposes the reader to some of the characters and tales that exist in police stations up and down the country but are rarely portrayed. It will shock and open your eyes to the danger and corruption that lurks within the ambition of some to get promoted. As Ian's career unfolded his experiences were broadened and his entrepreneurial talent came to the fore when he started his own business. The book deals with how this was frowned upon by those in authority, the descrimination and jealousy that he encountered along the way. The investigation into him by ‘the dark side’, the effect this had on him and his family and the... More > huge decision to resign from a career that he loved. Or was it the push that he needed ? The former police inspector is now a self made millionaire! I literally could not put this book down from the moment i turned the first page, so much so i got told off for reading it on christmas day and ignoring my guests! Some join the police to make a difference, there are others who make a difference by being different and Ian Kirke was one of those officers.< Less
