For those of us who tend to identify with the wrong characters in story and history, this play is a gift. The Biblical Herod has never seemed so human as he does here. Meticulously researched, this play portrays King Herod in a whole new light. Herod, haunted by his past deeds, says: "I have returned. I am the The Great, the scourge in the hand of Rome, the professional tyrant. I am the lion, ravenous; I am the insatiable desert, the furnace, the scorpion. Will you dare my sting?" And he returns here. In this brilliant work. Could anyone love a man like that? Find out by reading this fantastic play.
