This book is the amazing true account of a boy’s survival during World War II.
Illya Okh had only just begun to enter his teenage years when he became separated from his parents during the Nazi invasion of the Ukraine. Merely a child, Ilya travels about the vast expanse of the Soviet Union, hopping from trains to orphanages to prisons all while trying to reunite with his missing family.
In this true story of a youth that lived, worked, and learned to survive during the Great Patriotic War, Illya meets and grows with people lost in the upheaval. In a style marked with unexpected optimism and honesty, this surprisingly candid biography shows a different face of the the world during one of its bloodiest wars.
On the move instead of on the battlefield, Okh shares the light-hearted outlook that helped him survive all of the adverse situations that rose against him. It’s a story seldom told, yet impossible to forget.

This book is a page turner. Get this book and you will surely finish it quite rapidly. I'm not a fast reader but the details of this true story kept me awake late into the night wondering just how our brave young soul would find his way out of situations so sticky that the whole geo political war machine at that moment was drowning this young lad in. Get this real story of what a world war is like from the eyes of a young orphan. Lest history repeats itself due to our own misunderstandings.
