I have read these titles over the course of several years, some as they were were originally published, others in going back and wondering how I had ever managed to miss anything by this author. These stories are a very smart, often emotional, and occasionally even humorous take on the darker side of Final Fantasy VIII, a side which is, unfortunately, often ignored in fanfiction. Furthermore, as is indicated in the summary, Jana never fails to acknowledge that the characters had lives and relationships and personalities and conflict long before the events of the game, and none of that just went away because an audience was allowed to watch part of their story. There is an entire world that she pays attention to, a history of Garden, of the Sorceress, and she makes it all as important for the reader as it is for the characters. Most importantly, however, is the focus of the relationships--relationships between one character to another, to a group, to their jobs, their histories, their... More > environment, and themselves. While someone's motivation may be left for the reader to interpret, there is never any question that they have one. Like her words themselves, everything has a meaning, and the result is something truly beautiful.< Less
