The woes of a third world country depicted by Nigeria. Once Bitten, Twice Shy, focuses on both individual ills and the socio-political ills of the country. Victory, the hero of the novel, whose patriotic zeal helped salvaged his community, suffered ingratitude in his time of need from this same community. This makes him have a rethink in his ledership role. On the national level, officials of government enthrusted with responsibilities to bringing about the alleviation of the sufferings of the people, plced themselves first before the nation. This results in poor infrastrutural facilities to the detriment of the people and growth. The author points out that the development of the individual and the nation, by extension, is premised on love for one another. This is ephitomised in the repentance of Victory friends for having neglected the former in his time of need. He accepts them back but with extra caution. Once Bitten, Twice Shy.
