The Teas That Bind is a unique and personal account that draws on posts from the author's blog ten minutes hate, tweets, emails to family and friends, her subsequent experiences volunteering in the disaster zone, and the power of a cuppa tea. It is a rare collection that captures the strange bumbling along of time post-earthquake from the perspective of a foreigner living in Tokyo. While the author doesn’t attempt to generalize her experiences as collective ones, I could relate to a lot of what she described and I’m sure others who were here can too. If you are interested in reading a real on-the-ground account without all the Western media hype, then this is a must-read.

This is an insightful and thoughtful portrayal of life in Japan before, during and after the quake of 2011. It makes you realise that you can/ should always do something to help when disaster strikes, even if you feel useless and distant from the reality of the utter devestation of disaster zones. I loved it, and now am desperate to visit Tokoyo!
