In short, this is a master's thesis that succeeds by juxtaposing four of Michael Moore’s works (i.e. Roger and Me, Stupid White Men, Bowling for Columbine, & Fahrenheit 9/11) against the four voyages of Lemuel Gulliver (i.e. Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift). This study, through the application of contemporary and historical contexts, via the literary disciplines of Reader-Response and New Historicism theory, formulates and uncovers more accurate meanings for realities and fact-based allusions situated beyond the works of both artists. Moreover, it provides detailed explication for how working-class rhetoricians like Moore and Swift use satire and context to capitalize upon profound differences that separate a society’s “haves” from its “have nots.”
