Jack Halifax nails the lushness of the Willamette Valley and the cultural/political conflicts of the region in this well-crafted, creative, and captivating mystery. Mr. Halifax has an amazing eye for detail, a strong sense of place, a discerning sense of humor, and a wonderfully analytical mind. He is able to weave it all together for an incredibly unique literary adventure. A must read!

KUDOS, Mr. Halifax. This is literary fiction at its best! With our collective need to categorize, let’s simply call it a mystery, but one with a unique and complex treatment of the traditional formula. There is a victim and a perp. Or is there? The reader is presented with a delightfully daring point of view – a first/third person narrator who is also a character in the novel. Halifax plays with character sketches rather than in-depth character development ~ his physical descriptions are so skillfully drawn they not only create a physical image for the reader but also trigger concrete emotional responses to a character. But I realized I had been set up for the conventional climax and falling action to the conclusion when a surprise finale left me chuckling at my failure to see the sucker punch coming. The wonderful thing is it all works! HOLLOW is extraordinary word crafting and Halifax is definitely a rising star.
