Published in 1910 by MacMillan, Lost Face is a collection of seven short stories linked by their Klondike setting. The collection includes London's most celebrated short, To Build a Fire, a pure narrative description of a man's attempts to build fires during a day long journey to the next camping site. Each failure exposes the man to greater danger simply because the physical results make it more difficult to build the next fire. This collection is a prime example of London's strengths as a plot builder and should serve as a great introduction to the author's Klondike set stories.
