This is, in my opinion, the best World War II biography ever written. The author takes you from his Stateside pre-war training as a private, through deployment to the Pacific Theater as an N.C.O., and into the middle of bloody battles in Bougainville and Luzon as an officer. The incredible detail and never-before-seen photos and illustrations make this a must-have history book. The easy-to-read style makes it a delightful read. And the real-life humor, pathos, and thrilling events make this one of the best accounts of World War II. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who wants to know what it was like to survive history’s greatest war.
