This novella was a foray into an unfamiliar genre for me, but I was gripped by the characters from the first pages until the last. They are so vivid and real, their histories are complex and slowly revealed as the story progresses. I immediately took to Leila's character - Jacob wrote her so well, I could see and hear her clearly. To be fully transparent for this review, I should say that I decided to read the book for the steamy scenes between Leila and Lucas, but I had no idea their relationship was so powerful. Certain scenes made me nostalgic about my own life, almost like my own memories were being brought forth. Lucas' character...well, all I can say is that as a single woman, I was really wishing he was real. The passionate scenes were well balanced by affectionate ones, and I found myself smiling a lot at how comfortable and loving the two characters were. The symbolism, metaphors, and imagery throughout this book are still haunting me, one week later. Especially the story... More > around the title "Soaking Red" - when I got to that part in the book, I actually put it down and stared off into space to process it. Although not for long, because I finished the book in one sitting. By the end, I had experienced so many different emotions in such a short amount of time. I had stopped reading words, and was in a visual flow with the story. I was fundamentally moved; I actually felt like this book changed me somehow. The characters are still in my mind, and for a short novella, that's an amazing accomplishment. I'm on my way to reading more of Jacob's work, but I know I'll be reading Soaking Red over again before too long.< Less

Suspenseful, raw, true love as it should be. This story had me the edge of my seat, wanting more and more of the delicious, sinful taste the two share. A clenching , stunning horror of a thrill ride of an nightmare . Till dawn.
