The real Lyndon Johnson was not a poor boy who made good, but from an illustrious Texas political family. He was spoiled rotten and universally disliked, but even as a child he craved power. Never able to win popular affection, his specialty was secretly organizing misfits and marginal social types into a force which then stole power. Johnson affectionately called these coups “Hitlerized operations,” and they characterized his behavior in college, in Congress, in the Senate, and as Vice President(170 pages).
