"A string worth dancing on" The foreign (to me) writing idioms caught me off balance at first - for about three minutes. After just a few pages, I didn't even notice them because I was busy noticing that this book is clever and well crafted. The setting is interesting, the characters are engaging, and the plot never stands around playing with sock puppets. This is what good fiction is supposed to look like. Too much of what I read these days telegraphs its progress waaaaay ahead of time, and this could have as well, the clues were all there, but it never left me bored enough to start mirco-analyzing what was going on behind the curtain. I didn't have that much attachment to the money I spent on this book, but I would like to personally thank Mr. Beresford for not wasting the most valuable thing I have, my time.
