Captain Fitz was a real-life hero of the American Revolution. He was a Colonial Robin Hood, who stole from the British and gave the spoils to poor colonials. He lived rather happily as an indentured servant with a doctor and his servant for several years, spending much time in the woods hunting with the servant, who had lived part of his life with Indians. When the doctor and his servant were murdered, he took flight with a bounty hunter taking up the chase behind him. Shot by his pursuers, he was rescued and taken in by a young Indian brave, who nursed him back to health. They became fast friends. His dealings with nearby pirates helped the Colonial resistance and resulted in his lifelong antagonist, Cyrus, receiving an unplanned visit to Hispanola, where he endured years of slavery. After a miraculous escape, Cyrus returned, still determined to even the score though both were grey and bent.
