Arachnophobia! is an OSRIC aventure by James Kramer. I purchased the Updated Edition, and I give it 4.5/5 stars. Positives: The adventure is inventive and entertaining. It successfully creates an Alien/Aliens (movie) feel in an AD&D setting. First, the creatures bear a passing resemblance to the creatures from the movie, both in their adult and egg stages. Also, although there are multiple possible entry points to the adventure (both in terms of the players' motives and physical entrances to the encounter areas), the party will most likely begin their adventure in a setting that really helps build the tension, as they try to figure out what horrible thing must have happened. Eventually, the party begins to encounter the creatures, and will likely have to use some stealth and cunning, as a straight ahead barge in and hack and slash could prove deadly to players. As with other adventures by Mr. Kramer, the maps are excellent. The module also introduces a new monster and a new magic... More > item. Negatives: The adventure could've used another edit. For example, encounter areas 31-34 do not match up to the references to these areas earlier in the module, and referenced area 35 is missing altogether. Also, one encounter states that the party discovers several monsters that are fighting each other, with some of them dead and dying, but the info box gives all of the monsters full hit points. Please note these errors do not affect the playability of the module, so long as the game master takes time to prepare the adventure, reading the entire module ahead of time and making necessary adjustments. Lastly, the adventure itself is not terribly long, taking up about half of the module's 32 pages. The remaining pages are things like maps, new monster descriptions, open game license, NPCs, and blank character and DM forms. I think parties would complete this adventure in 1-3 sittings.< Less
