These poems seem to have been written by another James Hazard, not the same author of New Year's Eve in Whiting, Indiana (which was excellent). There are one or two poems in Shortening of the Days that hit the mark, but overall these poems don't communicate or connect with the reader like his early work. All the bitterness and misery being felt by the author are real, I am sure, though this poetry reads more like therapeutic journaling, or a new poet's recovery effort from grief and loss. All my regrets to Mr. Hazard for the change in his outlook.
