The Material Poem, edited by James Stuart, features the work of 28 Australian poets, artists and critics, all engaged with poetry, and more broadly language, as a material form. This body of work is inter-disciplinary, inter-media and often collaborative, spanning a wide variety of formal contexts – page, screen, canvas, space, book, performance and more.

"Review of THE MATERIAL POEM in Jacket Magazine." The Material Poem is an anthology of poetic artworks edited by UTS Masters student James Stuart. The work, by 28 artists, is interested in the materiality and objecthood of the ‘poem’, and often engages intermedia and cross-disciplinary compositional methods. In his opening essay, ‘The Art of Writing’, Stuart lays out the aims of this wide-ranging anthology: that new writing can expand the possibilities for text-based art (and conversely, I would add, visual poetry); that interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches can expand the ways in which poetry and literature are practiced. The Material Poem succeeds, in terms of these aims, and in fact goes even further than simply opening out the scope of new media and its composers. - ASTRID LORANGE, JACKET MAGAZINE FOR THE FULL REVIEW VISIT: http://jacketmagazine.com/34/lorange-stuart.shtml
