James Uniam, a speaker of the Naskapi language and freelance artist created the simple and clear drawings for this first word book in Naskapi. Sachidun Childcare, the locally operated childcare centre in the Naskapi community, commissioned the publication and chose the common objects feature in this book. The spelling has been reviewed by the language department at the Naskapi Development Corporation. This book represents a significant improvement in the quality of early literacy materials available in the Naskapi language. As more of these titles are developed and placed into the hands of eager early readers and their parents and caregivers, we have great expectations for improvement in the literacy skills for the next generation. We strongly recommend the use of this book as the precious little ones are introduced to reading.

The Naskapi daycare centre, "Sachidun Childcare" has initiated a Naskapi literacy project that includes the first three books of this series. Finally, good-quality children's books are becoming available in the Naskapi language. The project provides books and canvas book-bags with a Naskapi design on them so that the children can carry the books home from daycare. Well done, Sachidun Daycare and Naskapi Development Corporation
