This book is about the various types of bias that most practitioners fall into. It discusses such biases as: towards a particular build, cronyism and institutionalism etc. It is well thought out, with a genuine attempt to cover the field while treading lightly to avoid upsetting people. The author unsurprisingly suggests science as the best tool to go forward. While I agree that it is the right tool, a lot of effort could have been reduced if we simply called them logical fallacies and used the rules of logic to root out the weeds. The author affirms that science is trying to prove something true, however this is incorrect. Science has no mechanism for proving something true, it is however excellent at proving something false. The problem with science is that it (ultimately) requires peer review, and this is where the author’s proposal becomes untenable. It is extremely unlikely that teachers of martial arts would ever allow science to be their master. I therefore suggest the... More > individual uses formal logic as their best chance for success. I recommend this for any martial artist with an inquiring mind.< Less
