In this volume Jan Hendrik Hessels takes a critical look at the question “who invented printing with movable type”? While he affirms that Gutenberg was an important printer he does not feel that there was enough evidence to state that he was the inventor. Hessels was also the translator of Van der Linde’s volume “The Haarlem legend of the invention of printing by Lourens Janszoon Coster”
