The Preparatory Manual of Black Powder and Pyrotechnics is a new recipe Handbook discussing the worlds most commonly used pyrotechnic compositions. The book even includes sections on specialty pyrotechnic compositions such as incendiary compositions, cloud seeding compositions, and pyrotechnic welding compositions. All compositions are discussed in great detail with complete processes for manufacture. The book discusses a total of 1187 pyrotechnic compositions all with a variety of uses, and methods of production. Version 1.4 is the same as the original version, but includes updated hazard information, and a test and review section.

    "A must for the engineer / scientist / hobbyist" OK, the author needs to improve his grammar and spelling in some of the more lenghty pieces, but you can't fault him for compiling a mammoth collection (spanning over 600 pages) of pyrotechnic formulations, information and technique. There are many thousands of industry, military and commercial formulae and buying the books / papers to aquire them by other means would set you back hundreds, if not thousands of £. Others have mentioned the accuracy of the formulas contained within (likely relating to the older version [pre 1.4]), and although a quick look does not show anything problematic, as always, sensible and knowledgable people capable of understanding and analysing the mixes and methods described should find the book a delightful reference material. Having served many years in the industry I can happily recommend this book as a to-the-point reference containing thousands of useful and interesting formulae.
