"A True Guitarist From Hell" This is a very informative guitar book, but also a quite unusual one. It's unique over other guitar manuals since the author inclues a lot of personal experiences throughout the text, although they never get tiresome. There are also tons of lessons covering basic and advanced guitar techniques related to the rock and metal genres of music. The book is split into 3 main sections: 1) introductory material, 2) technique, 3) miscellaneous advice. My favorite technique chapters were the ones on the "wah-wham" method and two of the outside-the-box thinking lessons, which demonstrated different ways one could approach the instrument. There are plenty of funny anecdotes in the third miscellaneous section too; where topics such as how to find bands and gigs, and the proper way to rehearse, among other things, are discussed. A lot of tablature is included in the book as well, but one drawback is that the tab is stripped down and minimal, and... More > some of the phrasing symbols can make the tab hard to read in places, which may turn off a few readers. Also you won't find any traditional music staffs and notes above the tablature, as is normally seen in guitar magazines, which some guitarists may view as a drawback. But since knowing how to read music isn't absolutely necessary for learning how to play guitar, just having the tablature barebones and direct saves a lot of space in the book. This instructional guitar book has plenty of useful info that I've never seen anywhere else. If you're a guitarist, you should definitely have a copy of this book in your guitar case and never leave home without it. How to Become a Guitar Player from Hell is a unique and informative book and I'll be buying a copy for all my musician friends this year for Christmas.< Less
