"My Mommy Is A Boy" is a short story of a little girl who is explaining to the reader why her female-to-male transgendered mommy looks like a boy. She explains the gender transition process in simple terms easy for a child to understand. The message she portrays is simply, that, no matter what her mommy looks like on the outside or how people perceive her family, her mommy loves her unconditionally. This book is suitable for children up to age 10.

What a delightful, comforting book! I think the artwork could use a little adjustment, but the message is crystal clear. This book describes, from a child's point of view the feelings and thoughts associated with a parent changing genders. It encourages love and support through the transition. The artwork matches the transition as well and never slacks in the parent expressing love for the child in the book. My only problem was with a few of the limbs in the artwork. They were sometimes drawn a little awkwardly, too long, or in a wrong position. I think a trip through Blender could probably fix this easily as well as make it less "flat." The message is the important part. The child character encourages empathy and support. This is invaluable for any child or adult going through the process of trying to change themselves outside to match the way they are inside.
