A faction is a commonly known as a sub-group within a larger group, usually within a political contexts. In my piece, two tonal areas serve as the basis for many sub-groups that fall within their harmonic spheres which are cast within a stratified treatment of sonata form. Each movement, while being self-contained (though each movement's all derived from the initial solo melody heard in the beginning), also functions within a grander scheme, what's called 'double function' form. This kind of form was used by Liszt in his B-minor Sonata, in Schubert's Wanderer Fantasy, and in Beethoven's c# minor quartet, op.131, among others.
