Sep 5, 2009"Funny... but true" This has to be one of the funniest books I've ever read. Funny.. But painfully true at times... I'm not sure if I should let my wife read it, she will know all my "tricks" if I do. Well worth the money!
Sep 4, 2009"If you have GAS, you're not alone!" An excellent book that gives insight into the why's and how's of Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. The many verbatim quotes from players, collectors, and professionals give various viewpoints of this affliction. Very entertaining and informative!
Jan 7, 2009"Re: HELP!!" lulu basically makes a commission on whatever you sell. you can create almost anything on the site, post it for sale, and set your price. technically, you pay nothing to lulu: whoever buys your content pays you and lulu. lulu is always paid printing costs, but no commission until you set your own revenue.
Sep 10, 2007"A great book!" This is a GREAT book that's perfect if you want to get a few hours of laughs ~ or enlighten a significant other to the addiction you may be suffering in your desire to own every guitar in the know world! Mr. Jay Wright has performed a much needed service to address this issue in a superb tongue in cheek fashion, with hilarious stories from all corners of the globe! Buy It! Get It! Read It! Give it to friends! You'll be glad you did!
Aug 13, 2007"A must read for the wannabe collector" Although not a serious collector I do suffer from this malady. For a number of years I thought that I was alone in my suffering, but this book has brought us "out of the closet" so to speak and created another Band of Brothers. This is a must read for the serious, not so serious and the wannabe collector of guitars. For the serious and not so serious, you will find that you are not alone in your suffering. For the wannabe, you will learn most of the symptoms and remedies, plus the maneuvers that you will need when faced with an attack of GAS. After looking at the photo on the back cover of the book, I would probably buy a guitar, but I don't think that I'd buy a used car from him. Buy the book. Laugh, enjoy and be proud to know that the proceeds are going to charity.
Jul 28, 2007"GAS Mania!!!" GAS! is a truly unique book which unveils personality traits, strategies, and rationalization of the Guitarist that strives to own an unusually large amount of guitars and peripheral equipment. I smile, laugh and shake my head when I review "the book of GAS" because I can relate with many of the scenarios illustrated. Reading this book has substantially exacerbated my GAS, but at least I'm no longer in denial. Lord have Mercy!
Jul 26, 2007"A Friend's Perspective" Jay Wright has been a close friend of mine for 45 years. We met in 1962 when we started working at Western Electric in Atlanta, and we have sustained our personal and familial relationships though we sometimes lived half a country apart. We now live within about three miles and regularly solve the World’s problems at Staton’s Diner while Maranda, our favorite server, brings the $3.50 breakfast special and keeps our included coffee hot. I have two guitars, but, so far, I haven’t developed a case of “GAS”. And, though I read “GAS” when first published, I am not qualified to critique Jay’s book from a collector’s perspective. However, for those who would like to know a little more about the man, I can reflect on Jay’s character and most admirable qualities. Jay Wright is exceptional in many ways. He is honest to a fault and exceptionally forthright, humble, generous, unassuming and unpretentious. He opens people up because he is so open. He is... More > sincerely interested in people as individuals and in their individuality. He is slow to judge and quick to seek understanding. Jay calls himself a guitar collector, however I think guitar ambassador would be more appropriate. His relationship with guitars and guitar people has nothing to do with pride, fame or money. All of the proceeds from “GAS” sales go to charitable causes. It appears that his goal in guitar trading is to break even. He seems to bargain hardest when he is helping someone else get a good deal on buying or selling an instrument. He has a few guitars he says he plans to keep, but, I suspect, he might trade them anyway if he encountered others who couldn’t do without them. Jay’s focus, of course, is people. And guitars have given him a perfect “instrument” for reaching and helping others. His role, as I see it, is to help get guitars into the hands of the people who will most appreciate them and to encourage a spirit of cooperation and humanity amoung all.< Less
Jul 24, 2007"Where can you find gas this cheap!" Buy It Buy It Buy it!!!!! Can you remember as a kid how bad you wanted that first guitar? Well, the proceeds from this book go to buying nice playable guitars for young musicans that can't afford a good axe. Jay, you da man! Oh and the book ain't bad either :)) G. Rosato
Jul 22, 2007"GAS" Jay Wright is a very funny man. His insights and the collection of nutty guitar players he calls friends are hillarious. If you play the guitar or love somebody who does, this is a must read. Maybe you have this afflicton (GAS) and don't even know you're a victim. There may be no cure for GAS, but within these pages, you'll certainly find that you do not suffer alone. G Black, Atlanta, Georgia
Jul 22, 2007"Re: Funny... but true" I'm one of the contributors to Pappa Jay's book. I met him a while ago through e-bay when I was selling a genuine G&L Broadcaster which he snapped up pretty quick. It was later that we conversed over the internet and became firm friends, that he asked me as a guitar maker to contribute to his book. I think what he's produced is an admirable tribute to the electric guitar, written with good humour and a great sense of irony. He sent me a couple of complimentary copies, both signed, I'll treasure them and hope one day that we'll meet up. Bob Francis. British luthier and musician-living in spaghetti land.
