You don’t need expensive software to write, design, and create PDFs for self-published, print-on-demand books. OpenOffice 3 Writer is free, easy to use, and has powerful page layout features suitable for producing books such as novels and short story or poetry collections.
This book explains how to write, edit, and design a book; lay out the pages using styles and templates; build a table of contents and index; include pictures, graphics, and special effects; and create a PDF for submission to POD services.
Jean Hollis Weber is Co-Lead of the Documentation Project at OpenOffice.org. Over the past 7 years, she has produced 25 books using Writer.

I really do not understand why Microsoft Office sells items from their table at such a price when it is really not worth it. The open office writer version 3 has always proved to be better than the Office from Microsoft. Besides, they are only giving us an additional insurance by making the product all the way free to download. I think that Microsoft Office should either come up with something revolutionary or make it free!
