The Idea of Regency in Thomas Aquinas

ByJean-Nil Chabot

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
In the De Regno, Thomas Aquinas gives a descriptive definition of political regency or regency. Man must govern himself because the spirit that is part of its composition gives him a certain measure of freedom and self-determination by virtue of which he is said to be gifted with free will and master of his fate. Armed with this concept of self-determination that I use as the medium term, I will try to ascend, for proposition to proposition, to its first principle. The path that is offered to me as the most suitable is that of the "dialectics of participation" which we find in the Summa Theologica of Thomas Aquinas. Having reached the summit, there will only remain to come down the slope from speculative to the practical and there reflect the newly acquired knowledge in the contingent existence.
