It may not have been the first superhero roleplaying game (I think that honour went to something called Superhero 2044), but is certainly the most enjoyable and most enduring. Now Villains & Vigilantes is back, smartened up and amended by its creators - Jeff Dee and Jack Herman - complemented by all new artwork. This is not a total makeover of the previous 1982 edition, but a slight updating that gets the game back into print after almost 20 years - and it's very welcome. An inspiration for such game systems as Mutants & Masterminds and ICONS, V&V is the perfect 'old school' superhero game - with the right balance of crunch and fun. This is, without a doubt, the best gaming release (so far) of 2010 - and now we will have to wait and see what Monkey House Games (the new publishers of V&V) brings out next.
