Jehni Thomas-Wurth has written an Australian Original! Just when you thought you might know what was happening next in the The Angles of Cats, the novel surprises you again and again. Her characters are well rounded, happily imperfect, realistic and sympathetic. The language is poetical and reads with crystal clarity, fresh and Australian (By Australian, read comfortable, because you don't have to keep translating nouns and issues from another country's culture). The plot twists and turns intriguingly. Delightedly I followed the characters' perambulations through the many time eras and aeons and was entertained the whole way, with the good advice from David, Lia and her child as they each follow their own paths to the heartily satisfying denouement. I highly recommend this as a GOOD READ!

The Angles of Cats is a time travel story but not a story about the mechanics of time travel or of the sights a traveller to the past or future might see. It is a story of how the ability to time travel affects those who have to cope with it. David Bradshaw, when we first meet him, seems to have learned to make the best of his inborn ability to hop about in time. He has created a sort of stability for himself within his strange and rather lonely life. Then he meets Lia and her nine year old daughter Neika and things begin to change. How he deals with what he learns and with what he knows he must do is what the story is all about. It is a highly entertaining story with a clever plot, mystery, romance and humour and wonderful, as real as life characters. David went straight to my heart with his gentle, quirky ways and I loved Tia, bravely making a life for herself and raising her exuberant daughter. No doubt a real life might have found Neika a handful, but she was wonderful to read... More > about. There are other characters too who play a part as the story unfolds. Recommended without hesitation to anyone who enjoys a well written story about people and relationships.< Less
