"Sticky Mae Grey" is a charmingly oddball little children's book written and illustrated by the talented actress Jennifer Blaire, who is most well known for playing Animala in "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra". (Full disclosure: I'm in the movie, too, and know Jen.) The book concerns the adventures of Sticky Mae Grey - hence its entirely appropriate title - a sort of Goth Pippi Longstocking (though I'm sure the individualistic Mae wouldn't like being pigeon-holed like that). The first paragraph in the book sets the tone: "There's an odd girl I know named Sticky Mae Grey. She lives at the top of crooked Mount Fray, in an upside down house that's made out of clay. It teeters on its roof and she likes it that way." We are quickly introduced to Mae's pets - three squashy monsters that she grows out of pods - and her best friends, Big Spider and Night Snail, as they bake bread, dance, and go shopping. The second of the two stories in this volume - "Sticky... More > Mae Grey and the Treehouse on the Moon" - is my favorite, as Mae and her friends, bored and trying to come up with something exciting to do, climb a caterpillar to the moon and have adventures there that remind me a bit of Gumby's lunar sojourn. Jennifer's illustrations are disarmingly simple at first glance, but contain a wealth of detail that fleshes out the characters and their environments nicely while never losing a sense of childlike wonder. "Sticky Mae Grey" is a thoroughly delightful book that would make a perfect (and inexpensive) gift for the adventurous child you know, or the oddball child within you. And its a must-have for fans of Animala!< Less

This book is FUN! I got it to read to my nephew, Ian, he is 5. Since buying the book, Ian has requested Sticky Mai Grey every night for his bedtime story. His favorite story is when Sticky goes to the moon and builds a tree house. His favorite part is when the monsters say I don't understand sneeze. (The language of the creatures that live on the moon) The stories rhyme,(which makes it fun to read) the illustrations are amazing and I really like that Sticky Mae Grey does things because she likes it that way. I hope there will be more Sticky Mae Grey adventures to come.
