This book is a beautiful journey that follows the Cooper family as they start out in rural Mississippi and adapt over the next nearly 100 years, eventually settling down in more urban areas. Mrs. Crane has done a wonderful job of drawing a parallel between the growth and struggles of the family with the growth and struggles of the country. Even the language used by the characters adapts with the changing times, starting with backwoods country speak and finishing with the mature language often heard today. The plot flows almost seamlessly and tells a timeless tale that can be enjoyed by families everywhere. Mrs. Crane also does a great job intertwining faith and Christianity thorughout the story. Great read all around!
