Including confessional poems regarding love and death and feminist poems regarding female characters from classic literature, Coloring the Shadows won the Mary C. Bryan Women’s Studies Award for 2009. It includes Book One: Emelye’s Prayer, a collection of primarily confessional poems, and Book Two: Griselda Speaks, a collection of poetic monologues from women from Chaucer and Shakespeare’s work.
