There are an additional 5, 5 star reviews of my book on Amazon, in particular, I would like to share these two: I would like to thank and introduce all who read this to a wonderful poet, Terri Kirby Erickson. She has reviewed my book, and here is the review: Donkey Love, 1 Aug 2010 By Terri Kirby Erickson "Telling Tales of Dusk" (North Carolina, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Opening Doors (Paperback) My sister-in-law and her husband live on a farm with lots of animals, including donkeys. I think donkeys are adorable, but being a city girl, myself, I've been content to watch them "being adorable" from outside the fence! However, in Jenny L. Bates' book of poetry, "Opening Doors," there are no fences. She takes you "up close and personal" to the animals she loves, praising them in a series of poems that will make you want to have a donkey of your own, or at least pet their sweet little heads! I'm in awe of her passionate... More > dedication to donkeys, and certainly, I've never seen another book of poetry dedicated to them... Opening Doors is a unique and stirring "read," and will leave you with a much greater understanding of and appreciation for these gentle beasts. By the way, she dedicated the book to the Donkey Sanctuary in Devon, UK, a very worthy cause. Here is another review by Cheryl Orlowski, manager of Shadow Ridge Farm and Equine Rescue: Cheryl Orlowski runs the Shadow Ridge Farm and Equine Rescue in Peachland, NC and has written this review of my book. Thank you. "If you ever had a relationship with a donkey you will be pulled into these poems and see into their souls as well as expose yours to the love you have for them. You will laugh and cry, remember the good times and why you fell in love with them in the first place." Cheryl 5.0 out of 5 stars Opening Doors to the heart of donkeys, 5 Jun 2011 By Angela This review is from: Opening Doors (Paperback) I first read "Opening Doors" - an equilog of poetry about Donkeys, By Jenny L Bates, from cover to cover in one sitting - an unknown for me. I have since read it again, and some poems - again and again. And I love them and would urge you to read them too. I work with donkeys at The Donkey Sanctuary and I know and recognise some of the donkeys Jenny has written about. What I find incredible is that she knows some of these donkeys as I know them - and yet she had never met any of them prior to writing these stunning and insightful poems. The art of a poet is to reveal what we already knew to be true - if only we would recognise it. Jenny has this art perfected in this wonderful collection of poems about donkeys. She understands how deep is a donkey's heart and how ancient is it's wisdom. She empathises with the misunderstood pain felt by these much-ignored and overlooked animals. I love this collection of poems almost as much as I love the donkeys she writes about.< Less

I enjoyed this book greatly. The poems have more than one layer - yes, there are poems about donkeys - good ones - but the poems are also about love, life, loss, spirituality, and joy. The author's approach to spirituality is one I admire - respectful of many beliefs and showing the commonality in all of us – animals and people. Some lines that really stood out for me “Simply, for happiness sake” and “Our love is not unfortunate, though it comes so late in life.” I always find favorite lines in poems that speak to me, and I will keep these lines with me.

A most insightful look into one of God's most simple but elegant creatures. A wonderful read.

I love this book. The author has a sensitive soul and it shows in every word she writes about these wonderful animals. From "When Circles Are Candles" to "Old Songs for a New Donkey", each touches that tender place in our hearts.
