Jun 22, 2008"The Book of N" Don’t let the title of Jeronimo Canty’s latest book The Book of ‘N’--Resurrecting the ‘Grand Unified Theory’ of the Ancients--Yin and Yang, the Golden Mean and Logarithmic Time/Space overwhelm you. The book is a fascinating, funny, and quite inviting tour of Canty’s own personal cosmogony, liberally dosed with references to the writings of George Ohsawa, Walter Bowman Russell, the sacred myths of the Meso-American Indians, and much more. In The Book of N, Canty postulates that today’s physicists, desperately searching for a “Grand Unified Theory” of the organization of the universe, are knocking themselves out for nothing. Canty says that the Grand Unified Theory has already been formulated by ancient civilizations, and further expressed in the writings of Walter Russell and George Ohsawa. Walter Russell and George Ohsawa basically said that reality is ever-changing, yet ever seeking balance. Both Russell and Ohsawa taught that this constant energetic... More > interplay takes the form of a logarithmic spiral. Canty’s particular gift to this body of knowledge, and the main theme of The Book of N, is the expression of the Unifying Principle in the form of an equation. Log n X=Y. Canty elaborates: ‘‘‘Y’ is Yin, ‘X’ is Yang and the base ‘n’ is the idea manifesting and the constant of the process. ‘Y’ is called the power or exponent to which ‘n’ must be raised to manifest, to substantiate. ‘Y’ empowers ‘n’ and supplies the needed materials. ‘X’ guides the unfolding process to its (spira-)logical conclusion.” Or as Canty puts it in a more down-to earth fashion: “‘n’ is the blueprint, Heaven is the builder and Earth is Home Depot©!” Canty elaborates on his theories with considerable humor. When the mathematics get a little heavy, he’ll abruptly shift into comic mode. He’ll diss humanity for its headlong dash towards “The Beeg Juan” (“The automobile alone will poison us all, thus ending civilization”). Or he’ll launch into an amusing rant against the idea that man has evolved from “carnivorous morons.” And who can resist a book with a chapter entitled “It’s Roundup Day and for the Golden Calf!” and concludes with the author’s responses to the Great Unanswered Questions of the 20th Century? So what is The Book of N? Is it a mathematical treatise, a comedic romp, the stream-of-consciousness outpourings of a brilliant, quirky mind, peppered with genuine flashes of insight, perhaps even illumination? See for yourself! (Note: The Book of N is the first in Canty’s planned “Holoscene Quartet” of books. Volume II, The Search for Quetzalcoatl and the Logarithmic Holy Grail, will be published in the near future.)< Less
