THOMAS CHANDELEUR (candle maker in the Norman-French spelling) was born about 1475 to one of many families of the name, died January 31, 1551. He married Unknown in 1500, who was buried in 1514, according to an entry in the accounts of the churchwarden of Bishops-Stortford for that year. He lived in Bishops-Stortford, County of Herts, England, a small market town about twenty miles north-east of London. The great north road of the Romans passed through the county seat, St. Albans, and the county was heavily settled from ancient times. Bishops-Stortford took its name from the manor of Stortford, which has belonged to the Bishops of London since prior to the Norman conquest (The Norman conquest of England was the 11th-century invasion and occupation of England by an army of Norman, Breton, and French soldiers led by Duke William II of Normandy, later styled as William the Conqueror.) …….
