Ten years after child prodigy Remy had an accident which robbed her of a prestigious future, she walks the edge between life on Solaray-lit Level One and the gloom of the UnderDome, waiting for an opportunity to return to her place among the elite ruling class and put the nightmare of living as a sub-human behind her. In the first book of the Dome Trilogy, Remy’s life spirals from her control; she is condemned to live her life in the most reviled pit in the Dome world, known to be populated by brutish beasts too inhuman to even live on the edge of society. When she arrives, however, she discovers that humanity does not belong only to the citizen, life on Level One is not what she had believed it to be, and a threat more grave than the UnderDome, itself, lurks just beyond its shadows.

Excellent hardcore sci-fi book. I think it's one of the best sci-fi books of the 21st century so far, and the series overall is fantastic

I was given this book as a gift when I became old enough for the adult themes contained within. Within the first chapter I was already hooked into the story. The excellent heroine Remy is introduced, a starlet who due to an unfortunate amnesia causing accident in a strict color-caste based post apocalyptic dystopia wound up living half of her life in the lowest of the slums as a Brown. Feeling like she had always hit rock bottom she tries to make it day to day, her only ray of light a constant hope she will finally be able to get back on track as the prodigal child everyone had expected her to be. It isn't just bad luck plaguing her though, it seems that there's something out to get her almost in subtle ways nobody else even notices. Soon, Remy learns that she hadn't quite hit rock bottom as her entire perception of the Domeworld collapses around her. The book is full of action, and had me turning pages like lightning trying to read what would happen next. Remy faces vicious politics,... More > vendettas, betrayal of every sort. The world is rich with technology, the people living in the Dome more corrupt and decadent as the colors go up to the political Blues, Indigo, and the leaders of the Domes themselves; the Violets. This book was a seriously great read, and for anyone who enjoys dystopian themes it certainly captures the feeling of a world where if you dont fit in - you're cut out of the picture.< Less
