Graze the Roof: A Kid's Guide to the Garden Mural is the story of the artwork surrounding Glide Memorial Church's rooftop garden. This fun illustrated children's book explains the basic concepts of a sustainable food system, from seed to compost. Emphasizing culture, community and organic practices, this is a great introduction to gardening for kids age 5 - 12. The book was created by Jessica C. Kraft for use in the afterschool program run by Janice Mirikitani Family, Youth and Childcare Center in the Tenderloin Neighborhood in San Francisco.

The neat thing about this book is that although it's written by the artist who made the mural, it's also a great way to explain how gardening works to kids. It's full of beautifully-illustrated information about why seeds sprout, how plants grow, and how the environment actually affects everyone ... would be great for ANY community gardening organization!
